A HANDMADE CAREER

CHERYL GAN

Cheryl is the founder and managing director of HYSSES Singapore (formerly known as Mt. Sapola), 365 days, and Barn & Potter Holdings.

Having accumulated certifications in herbal medicine, anatomy, physiology, and holistic healing, Cheryl is also a therapist, a certified trainer, an international distributor.

Despite a promising career in business technology, Cheryl made a bold switch to pursue her passion in naturopathic aromatherapy, founding Mt. Sapola in 2007. Armed with determination and foresight, Cheryl carved her own career by combining interests and innovation.

Responsible for all of the company’s worldwide sales and operations, she continues to wear many hats including end-to-end management of supply chain, sales activities, and service and support in three countries. She is constantly blending new scents, improving and beautifying products, while striving for perfection – evident in the excellent quality and product offerings by Mt. Sapola and Barn & Potter.

In 2010, Cheryl created a new concept of perfumery gift stores that offer affordable aromatherapy gifts for the mass market – 365 days. To supply for an increasing and demanding market, Cheryl also opened her own production and manufacturing company, Barn & Potter, which caters for Mt Sapola, 365days, and corporate orders for hotels and resorts.

Cheryl faces challenges head-on and celebrates her successes by pushing herself to reach even greater milestones, “I love to think about the future. When people throw me questions about the seemingly dare-devil decisions I’ve made on venturing into new product lines and international regions, I often ask them the same thing in return, ‘Why not?’ Good decisions will never be made unless you step out of your comfort zone.”

Cheryl is also a proud mother to four children and finds joy in spending time with them.

Cheryl earned an IT engineering degree from the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), she equipped herself with professional certificates from The Confederation of International Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (CIBTAC) in massage techniques, anatomy and physiology, and a distance learning programme on herbal medicine and perfumery. She has also increased her knowledge of business management with a graduate diploma in Marketing Management from the Singapore Institute of Management and acquired competency-based training and assessment skills through the WSQ Advanced Certificate in Training and Development.
